Egg Roll in a Bowl
The TikTok mega-hit: everything inside an egg roll, unwrapped into a 15-minute one-pan dinner.
The story
This deconstructed egg roll went mega-viral in the US for obvious reasons — a bag of coleslaw mix, ground pork, and the classic ginger-garlic-soy seasoning, done in one pan with no wrappers and no frying. It is low-carb by accident and meal-prepped by millions.
Ingredients (6 + pantry staples)
- Ground pork — 12 oz / 350 g
- Coleslaw mix (shredded cabbage & carrot) — 1 bag (14 oz / 400 g)
- Garlic — 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger — 1 tbsp, grated
- Soy sauce — 2 tbsp
- Toasted sesame oil — 1 tsp
Pantry staples used (don't count toward the 6): cooking oil, white pepper. Not stocked yet? See the pantry page.
Steps
- Brown the pork in a hot pan, breaking it up, 5 minutes.
- Garlic and ginger for 1 minute.
- Coleslaw mix in; toss-fry 3–4 minutes until just wilted.
- Soy sauce and sesame oil; toss and serve — over rice if you want carbs.
Swaps
Ground chicken or turkey work. A drizzle of chili crisp makes it Sichuan-ish; a fried egg on top makes it breakfast.
